In the world of Warhammer 40000, there's always something happening. Whether it's a model drop, a wave of new releases, or the echoes of some spicy rumours bubbling up from the pits of the darkest 40k internet forum.* You can have your ear to the ground in the usual places and still miss half of it. Not because the information isn’t there, but because it’s so spread out. Sprawling across sites, forums, channels, podcasts and conversations. None of which stand still or slow down for anyone, just because that's their very nature!

Where we are as a Community and Where Sanctioned Signal Helps it Make Sense

If you're reading this in the Spring of 2026, you may or may not know that Armageddon has recently been back in focus.

Between the hype of 11th edition coming this Summer and the signals of all the things that are to come, it's become one of those times in 40K where all the buses have turned up at once. If you're not on top of every little thing every day, it can get a bit chaotic trying to figure out which one you're meant to be hitching a ride on! Sanctioned Signal is a community members' attempt to try and deal with all of that. Not by cramming it through an AI generator and cramming it into your mouth like some great fantastical carrion bird feeding it's wailing young — instead by simply bringing it together, and delivering it to you in a meaningful way. Each transmission of Sanctioned Signal is a curated newsletter. It's a collection of what's already out there. Links complete with images and descriptions that link directly back to the source. Whether that's the hard working and** charismatic creator on youtube, the well thought through long-format article on your favourite blog, or the simple popularity of a hobby discussion on a message board. Videos, discussions, projects, releases, rumours, showcases. Everything that gets the community engaged and and gets them sitting up and paying attention. Absolutely nothing is replaced — no content or creator meets the ignominious fate of dying in your browser as an AI summary.***

The Format is Straightforward and Familiar

Each edition is structured around the same topics:

  • early signals and rumours

  • emerging speculation

  • competitive thinking

  • new releases

  • hobby work

  • community discussion

  • media and wider culture

  • narrative developments

Each topic will have one or two pieces of content by creators, authors, or discussions slotted in. For maximum creator exposure — whether that's views, clicks, or listens — every single link points back to the source.

And that's exactly the point.

What is Sanctioned Signal Actually For?

Sanctioned Signal isn't about keeping up with everything that's happening in 40k. It's about not missing what matters, and that's the people driven content.

The hobby has always been shaped by the community — not just in terms of discussion over what’s released by Warhammer themselves, but what’s built, shared, and discussed around it. The further it spreads, the harder it becomes to stay connected to that without investing time most people don’t have.

This doesn't have to be a bad thing.

Sanctioned Signal exists to make sure that you can keep your finger on the pulse, and not be overwhelmed by the scale of it all.

So What is the Brush & Bolter Patreon For?

Your valued membership of the Sanctioned Interlocutor tier of our Patreon is your support for the continued efforts of our independent blog, Brush & Bolter. At Brush & Bolter, we believe that browsing long-format content should be a better experience. As such, you'll never see ads on our publications for as long as we can possibly choose to do so.

Nothing irks me more than discovering an exciting article (which is hard enough given the advent of AI summaries) and to visit the source, only to be completely besieged by ads, overlays and pop-ups that make the experience one to forget.

As a thank you for your patronage, you will be a recipient of the Sanctioned Signal newsletter. So the Patreon itself isn't specifically for Sanctioned Signal, but it's nonetheless a part of the value.

Final Cogitations — Lending Us Your Support

If you can, fantastic. If not, don't worry — nothing changes for you. You still get to view Brush & Bolter ad-free, for as long as can possibly be.

If you want to support it what we're building, you can do so for a small monthly subscription as a Sanctioned Interlocutor. In which case, keep your eyes peeled for regular edition of the Sanctioned Signal...

Cheers!
